A video showing a woman unloading insults to a veteran and his service dog sparked heat and discussion on social media. The woman was upset that the veteran took his dog to the restaurant.
The woman, who identified as Ciara Miller, was dining at Kathy’s Crab House & Family Restaurant where Army National Guard veteran Bill Austin was also dining with his family.
Austin has a service dog, a Great Dane named JP, to help him with his PTSD. JP is critical for Austin to function properly in his daily life.
“I’m leaving because the food is nasty and there’s a dog,” Miller yelled in the video. Austin’s family defended him, as well as other diners at the restaurant.
An employee came to Austin’s defense and pointed out that he ”fought for the country.” To which Miller responded, “My husband’s dad did too. My husband’s dad fought for the f****** country! So what?! It’s still nasty to me!”
Austin was calm throughout the whole ordeal. He spotted in the middle of the video, standing there calm and collected. He was trying to keep things from escalating.
“It’s making people understand that ‘you know what, this is not the way we should be treating each other,’” Austin told WCAU.
