A beautiful yellow lab named Taylor, endearingly called Tay-Tay, served her country, not once – but twice. Believe it or not, this amazing dog was so incredible at her job of protecting soldiers, that the Taliban actually had a bounty on her head.
A person who was with Taylor during all of the critical and scary moments was Sergeant Tom Hanson. She protected him by sniffing out bombs as they were walking, and he would protect her by keeping a lookout for any potential dangers. They quickly became best friends.
After Taylor’s two deployments to Afghanistan, the heroic and brave girl retired from the military. This was wonderful news because she would no longer be put in danger, but it also meant that Taylor and Sgt. Hanson were going to be separated.
After military dogs complete their service, they are usually put up for adoption. Soldiers that they work beside are often given first priority, but not always – and the reunion process can cost thousands of dollars.
Thankfully – a woman named Molli Oliver came to the rescue. She’s a flight attendant, but her real passion is reuniting military service dogs with their handlers. “I love the dogs and I love my military that’s taken care of my freedom my whole life, so it’s a win-win to combine the two,” she said.
